Nouns can be split into two categories: common nouns and proper nouns. As their name suggests, most nouns kids come across in their reading are common nouns: a person, place, or thing. When a noun refers to the name of a specific person, place, or thing, however, it's a proper noun. Here's a worksheet that helps kids sort out the difference between these two kinds of nouns. Kids read the nouns and sort them into the right category by writing "common" or "proper" next to them. Here's a hint: proper nouns are always capitalized!
Learn more about proper nouns with a worksheet on capitalization.
