Worksheet

Identify Complete Subjects and Simple Subjects

Spot the subjects of sentences in this spectacular worksheet! Students will first review the difference between a simple and complete subject: a simple subject is just the subject noun or pronoun, while the complete subject includes the simple subject and any other words that describe or modify it. Then, for each of 10 sentences, learners are asked to circle the simple subject and underline the complete subject.

Being able to identify a complete or simple subject will strengthen fourth and fifth graders’ knowledge of sentence structure. As students practice this skill, they can apply it in their own writing to form complete, clear, and grammatically correct sentences.
