Look Beyond the Words: Simile and Metaphor

Become as clever as a fox as you learn to identify and interpret similes and metaphors! In this worksheet, students will read a brief introduction that explains the difference between a simile and a metaphor. Then, they will read seven sentences, find the simile or metaphor in each one, and explain what the comparison means in context.

Similes and metaphors are important elements of writing and communication. After completing this worksheet, sixth and seventh graders can obtain a better understanding of these figures of speech. They’ll also practice looking beyond the literal meaning of a phrase or sentence to discover the hidden figurative meaning!
