Make Connections: Transition Words and Phrases

Learn to relate ideas to one another using transition words and phrases! In this worksheet, learners are given a bank of transition words, including furthermore, next, such as, consequently, likewise, and however. Students must then complete each sentence by writing a transition word or phrase in the blank.

By including transition words and phrases in their writing, learners can add information, explain cause and effect, show sequence, compare and contrast ideas, and provide an example. These can make for stronger, clearer writing, allowing for more effective written and verbal communication.

For more practice, try Transition Words in Informational Writing. Learners can also use Transition Words Reference to keep track of these words and phrases.
