Multiplying Using Partial Products: 2-Digit by 1-Digit

Try using the partial products method to solve multiplication problems with this helpful worksheet! In these six problems, fourth graders will multiply a two-digit number by a single-digit number. To accomplish this math, students are prompted to break down the two-digit number into the tens and ones places, then multiply both by the single-digit number. Finally, students will add the partial products to get the total product. 

This worksheet is a great introduction to multi-digit multiplication and the partial product method. This method helps students practice decomposing numbers, or breaking down difficult multiplication into simpler pieces they can solve more easily. While working on this practice, students also have the opportunity to apply mental math and place value strategies, improving their overall understanding of math.
