Multiplying Using Partial Products: 2-Digit by 2-Digit

Step up your multi-digit multiplication skills with this useful worksheet! In these problems, fourth graders will be guided to break down both factors into their tens and ones places. Students will then write multiplication statements for all of the partial products. Finally, learners will be asked to add those partial products together to get the final product.

The partial product strategy gives students an opportunity to apply their mental math and place value skills to multi-digit multiplication. This method also allows students to decompose numbers into more understandable parts that they can use to solve a more complicated multiplication problem.

If students are struggling with these problems, try starting with the Multiplying Using Partial Products: 2-Digit by 1-Digit worksheet. For more of a challenge, have students move on to Multiplying Using Partial Products: 3-Digit by 2-Digit.
