Name the 13 Colonies

Before the United States became a country, the east coast of North America was divided into 13 colonies belonging to the British Empire. In this worksheet, students will be asked to identify each of the colonies and write its name in the corresponding box. The map shows both the historical borders of the colonies and the modern borders of the states. 

This worksheet was designed for fifth through eighth graders learning about American colonial history. Use this worksheet as a review activity or a quiz to evaluate students’ knowledge. Learners can improve their understanding of US geography and the ways that borders can shift over time.
