Open and Closed Syllable Sort

Open and Closed Syllable Sort

This open and closed syllable sort gives your fourth graders practice with separating words into syllables. An open syllable has the vowel at the end of the syllable and makes the long vowel sound, such as robot and tiger. A closed syllable has the short vowel sound and the syllable ends with a consonant, such as basket and rabbit. This worksheet gives students a chance to practice letter sound relationships.
