Opposites with a Twist: Oxymorons

Oxymorons aren’t old news yet! Get the scoop in this engaging worksheet! Students will be asked to read ten sentences about a hiking adventure and underline all of the oxymorons they find. But they’ll need to be careful—not every sentence has an oxymoron. Then, they’ll choose words from two tables to build six new oxymorons.

Designed for fourth and fifth graders, this worksheet is a great choice for strengthening students’ understanding of oxymorons as phrases that combine contradictory words. Learners can build their vocabulary, expand their knowledge of word relationships, and discover figurative language they can use in their own writing.
