Patterns of Motion on a Playground

Use your powers of prediction to project the future movement of playground objects! Learners will think about the motion of a swing, a skateboard, and seesaw, then describe what will happen next. At the end, they will reflect on and explain the similarities between the movement of all three objects.

This third-grade worksheet was designed to introduce students to observing and predicting repeating patterns of motion. Students can learn that motion often follows predictable patterns. They’ll also practice using evidence-based reasoning to explain their observations and conclusions, a vital skill both in science class and in real life.
