Personification: Examples in Context

Collect examples of personification as you read with this helpful worksheet! Students are asked to find and record four instances of personification from their reading, making sure to note the title and author of the book where they found each example. Then, students will need to explain the figurative meaning of the personification.

This worksheet is designed to help fifth through eighth graders better understand where, why, and how personification is used in writing and literature. Students will practice not only identifying figurative language, but also interpreting it within the context of the book they are reading. The ability to decipher figurative language is a vital skill for students to become stronger readers.

Students struggling to understand personification can first try Complete Sentences Using Personification. Students ready for a more advanced creative exercise can complete the Personification Poem worksheet!
