Persuasive Writing Assessment

Evaluate your arguments with this persuasive writing assessment! Fourth graders will choose one of two writing prompts, then write a persuasive piece in response. Students must state their opinion clearly and support their reasons with evidence or examples. For this assignment, students will write about choosing their own bedtime or limiting the time spent on homework.

This assessment will allow students to showcase their persuasive writing skills. Persuasive writing helps students learn to build arguments, organize their thoughts, and appeal to a specific audience. The attached rubric will guide educators in evaluating students' grammar, structure, reasoning, and sentence fluency, all of which are key elements of strong writing.

For extra support, have students complete the Persuasive Writing Graphic Organizer.
