Plot Archetypes #2

Learn about common patterns in storytelling with this worksheet all about plot archetypes! Students will read six different story descriptions, then match each one with its corresponding plot archetype. Learners are then asked to draw a symbol to represent the archetype.

This worksheet will introduce middle-grade writers to six story archetypes: comedy, tragedy, the underdog, voyage and return, parallel worlds, and coming of age. Students are prompted to think about common patterns in a story’s events or structure, helping to build comprehension and critical thinking skills. Learners may even be inspired to write their own stories!

Make sure to complete the other two worksheets in this series, Plot Archetypes #1 and Plot Archetypes #3.
