Worksheet

Read and Unpack an Informational Text

Dig deeper into informational texts with this helpful graphic organizer! To begin, students will write the title of the text, the author, and the topic. Then, after each section, learners are asked to record the main idea and three supporting details. Afterward, students will write the main idea of the entire text and explain the author’s purpose in writing the piece.

Geared toward fourth and fifth graders, this worksheet helps students break apart the individual ideas and details in an informational text. As learners synthesize the highlights of each section to determine the overarching message, they will strengthen their reading comprehension skills and better understand how to structure and write an informational text.
