Worksheet
Reading a Grid Map #3: At the Park
Stroll through the park with this grid map activity for kindergarteners and first graders! Young learners are presented with a 5-by-5 grid map of a park that contains images of a swingset, a bench, monkey bars, a slide, and a picnic table. For each pair of coordinates, students must find that area on the map and write down which item is at that location.
Working with grid maps can help familiarize learners with the purpose and layout of maps. Maps can also aid in learning about directions, which is a vital skill for students to have. Knowing how to read a grid map will help as learners later encounter more detailed and more complex maps.
