Reading Response: Story Elements

Review and record the elements of a story in this first- and second-grade worksheet! Students will write the title of the book, then note the characters and setting. Learners are then asked to describe the problem, the solution, and the lesson learned. Students can either write or draw their answers to each prompt.

Writing in response to reading is a helpful way for students to deepen their comprehension. Learners must reflect on the text and interact with it in order to complete reading response prompts. This exercise can also improve students’ ability to recall details and analyze a piece of writing. These skills will support students as they read more complex texts that require deeper analysis.
