Worksheet

Rhyming With CVC Words

Put your rhyming and drawing skills to the test with this engaging first-grade worksheet! Students are given six CVC words, such as bat, wig, and top. For each word, they must write a rhyming word, then draw a picture to represent the word.

Rhyming builds phonological awareness by encouraging students to isolate the ending sound of a word. This will lay the foundation for identifying trickier rhymes, where the ending letters may not be the same, even though the words rhyme. By having students write their own rhymes and draw a picture, they will also strengthen their fine motor skills.
