Roll to Make Fractions: Group Models

Practice shading and writing fractions with this hands-on activity! To start, learners will roll a die and shade in the corresponding number of shapes in the model. Then, students are asked to write a fraction that represents the model. Each fraction will be less than or equal to 1, with denominators of 6 or 8.

Geared toward third graders, this worksheet will reinforce the concept that fractions represent parts of a whole. Models help students recognize that the denominator shows how many equal parts the whole is split into, while the numerator tells how many of those parts are being counted. This understanding is foundational as students begin to compare, add, and subtract fractions.
