Rural, Suburban, and Urban: Writing About Communities

Describe different communities with this writing exercise for third, fourth, and fifth graders! Students will write about rural, suburban, and urban communities, making sure to write at least three sentences for each prompt. Learners may choose to write about transportation, land, buildings, or anything else that can describe each community.

This worksheet is a great way to assess students’ understanding of rural, suburban, and urban communities. Since each prompt is open-ended, learners must pull from what they remember about each type of community. This activity will also strengthen students’ writing skills by encouraging them to write complete and descriptive sentences.
