Worksheet
Seasonal Poetry: July
Celebrate the Fourth of July with this second-grade poetry worksheet! Students will read “July” by Lana Krumwiede, a poem that describes the sights and sounds of an Independence Day celebration. Then, learners will answer two pages of comprehension questions about vocabulary, visualization, and the details of the text.
As they complete this activity, students will scratch the surface of poetry analysis while they strengthen their reading comprehension skills. Learners will make inferences, describe and visualize events from the poem, use context clues to define words, and relate scenes from the poem to real life. Practicing these skills will support students as they delve into longer, more complex passages.
