Secret Syllables

Reveal a secret using the power of syllables in this engaging worksheet! For each of 11 words, students will identify the correct number of syllables and circle the letter in the corresponding column. There are one-, two-, three-, and four-syllable words for students to identify. Then, learners will use the circled letters to reveal a fun fact about octopuses!

In order to decode and encode words, second and third graders must be able to count and isolate individual syllables. Breaking complex words into smaller, more manageable parts can help students become stronger readers and spellers and build vital literacy skills.
