Worksheet
Sensory Verbs: Action Versus Linking
Turn up the heat with this cooking-themed verb practice! To start, students will read about how sensory verbs, verbs that relate to the five senses, can act as either action or linking verbs. Then, learners will read a short story about an exciting night at a restaurant that includes 12 sensory verbs. Students must determine whether each sensory verb is an action verb or a linking verb and label it accordingly.
Created for fifth through seventh graders, this worksheet will reinforce the difference between linking and action verbs. This practice will encourage students to look closely at context clues and the function of the verb in order to determine what type of verb it is. Having a stronger understanding of grammar and parts of speech can help students become more effective writers.
