Sight Words: Year End Check-in

After a year of learning new vocabulary, assess your first grader’s ability to read sight words using this list of 30 words! Sight words are common words that beginning readers can recognize instantly without needing to sound them out, as they appear frequently in text, such as “day” or “rain.”

When children can quickly recognize and understand words, they can focus more on understanding the meaning of the text rather than struggling with individual words. Use this worksheet to see where your students are shining or where they need some extra practice.

This resource is part of 20 worksheets in the “First Grade Assessments: End of the Year (mid-March to early June)” set that help you evaluate how much students have learned during the school year.
