Sort and Spell: Short a Word Families

Successfully sort and spell short a words in this kindergarten and first-grade worksheet! To start, students will cut out the pictures at the bottom of the page. Then, learners must sort them into the correct word family. Lastly, students are asked to write each word on the line.

This hands-on activity will build phonological awareness in early readers as they segment and blend phonemes and identify rhyming words. These skills are fundamental for success in reading and writing. This worksheet will also reinforce the connection between letters and their sounds as students spell each CVC word.
