Syllable Mapping

Practice dividing multisyllabic words with this worksheet for third, fourth, and fifth graders! Students will read each word, then draw lines to divide each word into individual syllables. Then, learners are asked to write each syllable in the corresponding column.

Dividing words into syllables can help students break down longer words into manageable chunks. This can allow learners to more easily encode, decode, and understand the meaning of unfamiliar multisyllabic words. Syllable mapping also encourages students to think critically about the phonics rules surrounding vowel sounds, consonants, and silent letters.
