Syllable Practice: Syllables with the Silent E

Syllable Practice: Syllables with the Silent E

The Silent E, or "Magic E," makes the previous vowel long. In this worksheet, children will work with syllables in words with the VCE pattern, or Vowel, Consonant, Silent E pattern. Students will separate 10 VCE words into syllables, then practice adding the Silent E to the end of 10 new words, noting how it changes both the pronunciation and meaning of the word. Designed for fourth graders, this grammar and phonics worksheet supports students as they learn to recognize, spell, and pronounce VCE words.
