Worksheet

Syllable Sort: Open and Closed

Sort multisyllabic words with this cut-and-paste worksheet! To start, learners will cut out each word at the bottom of the page. Then, students must determine if the first syllable in each word is an open or closed syllable. Once learners have made their decision, they will paste the word into the corresponding column.

This hands-on activity is a great resource for first and second graders who are already familiar with open and closed syllables. Learners will also practice identifying long and short vowel sounds as they sort each word. These skills will help students strengthen their reading and spelling skills, equipping them to read longer multisyllabic words.
