Types of Phrases: Gerund, Infinitive, and Participial Phrases

What is the difference between gerund phrases, infinitive phrases, and participial phrases? It's all about the function! Gerunds, infinitives, and participles are verb forms that function as different parts of speech in a sentence. In this one-page grammar worksheet for seventh and eighth graders, students will first review each of these verb forms and learn how to recognize them in sentences. Then, learners will be asked to determine whether the bolded phrase in each of 10 sentences is a gerund phrase, infinitive phrase, or participial phrase.
