Worksheet

Under the Sea: Properties of Addition

Are you ready for a deep dive into the properties of addition? In this worksheet for first and second graders, students will finish an addition equation and identify the property that is represented. For each problem, learners must first solve for the missing numbers in the addition sentence. Then, students will decide whether the equation represents the identity, commutative, or associative property of addition.

Being able to identify and apply the properties of addition can help build fact fluency and prepare students to solve larger equations. Familiarity with these properties can also prime students to learn about the properties of multiplication.

Put these properties to use with Turnaround Facts: Domino Addition, Associative Property of Addition: What's Missing?, and Commutative Property of Addition: Match Numbers and Shapes #1.
