Worksheet
Using Antonyms as Context Clues
Use antonyms to help define synonyms in this thoughtful worksheet! Students will first read each sentence and underline the antonym of the bolded word. Then, using the word bank, learners are asked to write the synonym of the same bolded word. Students will use grade-appropriate vocabulary, such as dormant, numerous, and impressive to complete this exercise.
Geared for fifth and sixth graders, this worksheet builds on students’ understanding of synonyms and antonyms by framing them as context clues. By looking at the context of the original word, learners can determine its meaning without a dictionary! These skills can deepen students’ reading comprehension and help expand their vocabularies.
