Worksheet

Using Repeated Subtraction on a Number Line to Find the Quotient #1

Introduce students to division with this colorful worksheet! In each of these six problems, young mathematicians will be given a number line and a division equation with a dividend under 20. To solve the equation, students will need to perform repeated subtraction, drawing each instance of subtraction on the number line until they reach zero. The number of times they subtracted will be the quotient!

This worksheet is a great way to help third graders make the jump from subtraction to division. By introducing division in terms of an operation students already understand, this practice can give students a stronger understanding of division from the outset.
