Worksheet

V|CV or VC|V Word?

Expertly split syllables with this phonics worksheet! When dividing words into syllables, students must listen for the first vowel sound to determine where to split the word. In this activity, learners will read each word and distinguish whether the first vowel has a short or long sound. Students will color in the v|cv or vc|v box accordingly, then write out the syllables.

Created for first and second graders, this worksheet will build a strong foundation for reading and spelling multisyllabic words. Readers will also reinforce their knowledge of open and closed syllables as they divide up each word.
