What Happens When Habitats Change?

Reflect on the effects of habitat change with this third-grade worksheet! Students will read six scenarios involving different habitat changes, such as wildfires, droughts, floods, and rainstorms. Learners must determine whether the organism will thrive, move, or not survive as a result of the change.

This activity helps students understand how changes to the environment can both positively and negatively impact living things. Young scientists can also see how everything in an ecosystem is connected, introducing them to the concept of interdependence. This understanding lays the groundwork for learning about food webs, biodiversity, and the impact of human activity on ecosystems.

Sometimes, organisms will adapt to changes in their environment. Check out Adaptations to Wildfires for more information!
