What's the Fraction? Zoo Animals Edition

Count up animals to make fractions in this fourth-grade worksheet! Learners are given 12 descriptions, such as “birds,” “animals with horns,” and “members of the cat family.” For each description, students will count the corresponding number of animals, then write a fraction that represents the group.

This activity aims to deepen students’ understanding of fractions by illustrating the part-whole relationship. Learners will recognize that the denominator shows the whole set of animals, while the numerator represents only the animals that match the description. As they complete this activity, students will also gain practice writing and simplifying fractions.
