Why Do People Vote?

Learn about the foundational process of American democracy in this essential social studies worksheet! Students will first read a passage that will teach them about the levels of government citizens can vote for, who has the right to vote now, and who had the right to vote historically. They will also learn about some of the duties different government levels are responsible for. Then, on page 2, students will demonstrate what they have learned as they answer comprehension questions about the content of the passage. 

Designed for fourth and fifth graders, this two-page worksheet is a great way for students to learn about the election and voting process in the United States. While completing this worksheet, learners can begin to appreciate the importance of voting and its effects on regular people’s lives, all while practicing their reading comprehension and analysis skills.
