X Marks the Spot! Desert Treasure

Dig through the desert to find the hidden treasure in this creative map activity! Students will use the symbols in the map key to create their own desert treasure map. They’ll also add two of their own symbols to the map and map key to represent additional landmarks and geographical features near the treasure. 

This worksheet was designed as a fun activity for first and second graders learning how to read and make maps. Students can see how map keys and symbols are important to show information on a map. They’ll build their basic map literacy and practice skills that will support future learning about maps and geography.
