Kindergarten Subtraction Worksheets & Printables

Most children are aware of the concept of “take away” by the time they reach school age. But many probably don’t have a firm grasp on the mathematical computation involved with take away. One way to change that is to print out our kindergarten subtraction worksheets, which incorporate colorfully animated objects like cars, school busses, apples, and pumpkins to teach single-digit subtraction fundamentals. And for advanced learners, we offer kindergarten subtraction word problem worksheets.

Encourage Little Learners to Embrace Math with Kindergarten Subtraction Worksheets

There’s no getting around the fact that subtraction can be tricky for kindergartners. But parents can ease the learning process by printing out our kindergarten subtraction worksheets, which use fun designs, colorful illustrations, and familiar objects to encourage young students to be receptive to practicing this important skill.

As helpful as our subtraction worksheets are, there are many other ways to master the basics, while also working on such skills as skip counting and coin identification. Here are a few tips parents can use at home:

  • Place 10 pennies on the kitchen table. Tell your child to take three of the pennies and put them in her pocket, then have her tell you how many are left on the table.
  • After she solves that problem, place 10 dimes, five nickels and five pennies on the table. Tell her to take way enough coins so that 10 total coins remain on the table. Then see if she can add up the change.
  • Next time snack time rolls around, give your child 10 crackers and 10 grapes and tell her to stop when there are two crackers and four grapes left. Then ask her how many crackers she ate, how many grapes she ate, and how many she ate combined.
