Using a ruler correctly is an important skill, and this activity is the perfect way to practice! First estimate, then measure different line segments in this game. Use a deck of cards to determine the length of the lines you will seek out. Help your child work with the metric side of a ruler to compare different lengths using centimeters. Try to claim the most lines on the game board in order to win!

Terms to Know:

line segment: a straight line with a beginning and ending point

What You Need:

  • One deck of playing cards (Print a deck.)
  • One metric ruler (scaled in centimeters)
  • One Let's Estimate! game board (Print this out.)
  • A different colored highlighter/pencil/marker for each player
