What You Do:
If you're using our pre-made bingo cards, there's nothing to do but print them out and hit the road. But if you've got a little more energy, you can create a game of bingo that turns your next family trip into an adventure. Here's how: Print out multiple copies of the “blank template” above, then fill each of the bingo squares with a picture of a landmark from an upcoming trip, pulled off the web, or from a travel brochure. These can be things you expect to pass along the way (for example, a ferry sign, or a roadside ice cream shop) or locations in the place you plan to visit (The Statue of Liberty, a subway stop, Times Square, John's Pizza Shop, the Chrysler Building). Each family member gets a bingo board. Be sure to write the name of each picture underneath, to give your child practice associating the word with its picture.
If you're playing in the car, keeping the boards on laps is no problem. But if you plan to play while you're out and about, you'll need to be a bit more creative. For young kids, it's best to laminate the board and clip it to a string hanging from their necks, then give them stickers to “mark” the board when they see something. The rules of the game? Whoever sees the location or item first, yells out its name. They "own" that item and no other member of the family can mark it off on their board unless they see another version somewhere.
Happy travels, and happy gaming!
