Activity
Litter Bug
Create an adorable litter bug while learning about the importance of recycling. This recycle project is great to create on Earth Day, but is also fun for any time of the year. The litter bug is created from small recycled objects in your home or classroom. Start collecting newspapers, lids, buttons and other odds and ends that may be heading toward the trash or recycling bin a few days prior to creating this project.
What You Need:
- Newspaper
- Small recyclable items
- Googly eyes
- Glue
- Tape
What You Do:
- Have your child crumple a newspaper ball for the base of their litter bug. Glue or tape the bottom of the ball to help it hold its form.
- Encourage them to attach small objects to build up their litter bug. Small caps are great for creating hats, twist ties are good for legs, and packing "popcorn" is perfect for tails or other body extensions.
- Finally, they can glue the googly eyes in place to give their litter bug a little personality.
