Make a Diwali Diya
Diwali is a popular holiday celebrated in India and all around the world. A traditional Hindu holiday, this festival of lights is usually observed over the course of five days. In many places, it is celebrated in the mid-fall around the time of a new moon. People place lights in their homes and businesses to symbolize the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Some people also display lights to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity.
During this time, people customarily display diyas, which are oil lamps made from clay and a cotton wick. Make your own diya with a few simple materials.
