Others Build My Chain of Strengths

What You Need:

  • Brainstorming Strengths worksheet
  • Glue or stapler
  • Marker or colored pencils
  • Additional 8" x 1" paper pieces of chain links for adding more strengths (optional)

What You Do:

  1. Ask your child to brainstorm some of their strengths. If your child is stuck, offer some examples of your own (e.g. fashion, sports, math, reading, being a good listener, being an empathetic friend).
  2. Tell your child that they will be making a chain of strengths which will consist of their talents. The chain will serve as a great reminder of your child's strengths and will help boost their confidence.
  3. Work with your child to complete the Brainstorming Strengths worksheet. Have them write down their strengths on the blank strips. Then, add to your child's ideas by writing at least three more of their strengths.
  4. After completing the worksheet, show your child how to cut out the strengths and form them into an interlocking chain (either by gluing or stapling them together).
  5. Ask your child where they would like to display their chain at home.
  6. Ask, "Why is it important to remember your strengths? How do you feel reading and seeing your chain?"
  7. Explain that your child can add strengths to their chain at any time.
