Activity
Craft a Paper Quiver and Arrows
Inspire your child to release her inner archer! This arrow and quiver set may look dangerous, but in reality, it's just paper. Your little one will develop her fine motor skills and bring her imagination out to play as she creates her very first archery set.
What You Need:
- Large sheet of tan construction paper (12" x 18" works well)
- Manila paper (about 18" long)
- Stapler
- Red construction paper (8½" x 11")
- Black construction paper (8½" x 11")
- Scissors
- Craft glue
- Black crayon
- Hole punch (optional)
- Yarn (2', optional)
What You Do:
- Help your child fold the large piece of tan construction paper in half long ways, or "hot dog-style." Staple it closed.
- While you are cutting the arrows, have your child decorate the quiver with symbols and drawings using black crayon. She can also cut fringes into the stapled sides of the quiver with safety scissors.
- While she is busy with this, cut two strips of manila paper that are about 1" wide and 18" long.
- Out of red construction paper, cut two "fletchings," the shape found at the back of the arrows.
- From the black construction paper, cut two small triangles for the arrows' heads.
- Your child can cut decorative fringes around the red fletchings if she wishes.
- Have your child glue the red shapes on one end of the arrows, and the black heads on the opposite end. The arrows are done!
Once the glue is dry, your child can stick the arrows into her quiver. If she wants the quiver to hang on her back, consider hole punching the two ends and tying a piece of yarn through it. She can hang it around her body for safe keeping all Thanksgiving day!
