Patriotic Star Craft

What You Need:

  • String
  • Construction paper (red, white, blue)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Hole punch
  • Glue stick

What You Do:

  1. Ask your child to think of images that are patriotic.
  2. Encourage her to fold a sheet of construction paper in half twice and draw a large star on the top. Have her cut it out along the lines to reveal 4 stars.
  3. Repeat Step 2 for each of the three colors of paper, varying the sizes of the stars.  Make as many stars as you like. The more stars created, the more paper star charms you can create!
  4. Help her to arrange her stars from small to large, stacking them so the largest star is the to back and they drip down to the smallest star to create a shooting star effect.
  5. Glue the stars in place.
  6. Have her punch a hole in the top of the large stars.
  7. Help her to string her stars across the banner, evenly spacing them along the way.
  8. Hang the star charm on a wall which can be collaged with military images, or strung under a mantle with personal photos family and friends who served in the military or lost their lives in battle, remembering them on both Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
