What Does It Mean to Live in a Global Community?

What you need

What you do:

  1. Ask your child, "What do you think it means to live in a global community?"
  2. Ask, "How do communities rely on each other?"
  3. Together, watch the videos "If the World Were a Village of 100 People: A Story About the World's People" and "Learning to Live Together in Peace Through Global Citizenship Education."
  4. Ask, "What stood out for you? What does it mean to be a global citizen?"
  5. Explain that together you will explore the website to gain a deeper understanding of how many humans and communities are connected.
  6. Then, using the internet or a book from your local library, have your child research and record the definitions for “global community” and “interconnections.”
  7. Have your child design a collage with words and pictures that represent how communities depend on and need each other for support, resources, and resilience.
  8. Share what you both learned and the collage with family and friends!
