2.NBT.B.7 Lesson Plans
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.NBT.B.7
:"Add and subtract within 1000, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method. Understand that in adding or subtracting three-digit numbers, one adds or subtracts hundreds and hundreds, tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose tens or hundreds."
Our Take: Second grade students learn to add and subtract within 1000. When adding and subtracting three-digit numbers using the standard method, students know that they add numbers in the same place value column (for example, adding digits in the hundreds column with other digits in the hundreds column). Students use this understanding of place value when utilizing other addition and subtraction strategies. For example, a child may use visual tools, such as place value blocks or a number line, to help solve problems.
These lesson plans can help students practice this Common Core State Standards skill.
