Go to any length to test your students' understanding of perimeter calculations. Students will use their understanding of the perimeter of rectangular shapes to create rectangles that have different side measurements but equal perimeters.

Students will learn to convert metric units by applying concepts in word problems. Exercises and worksheets incorporate length (meters), and optional practice offers more instructions on mass (grams) and volume (liters).

Strengthen your students' understanding of cubic units and volume! They'll solve a realistic problem and explain key ideas about volume. Use this lesson on its own or use it as support for the lesson Volume and a Building.

Area models are building blocks to more complicated multiplication and division. Use this lesson to refresh students on the relationship between multiplication and area to prepare them to use the area models strategy with larger numbers.

Start a dialogue around area models! In this lesson, encourage students to ask questions as they multiply using area models. Use this lesson on its own or as support to the lesson Area Models and Multiplication.

Allow your students to explore the pros and cons of different strategies used to find the area of rectangles. Use this as a stand alone lesson or as a pre-lesson for the Multiplication and Area in the Community Garden lesson.

Students will use the inverse relationship between multiplication and division to complete an area formula in a real-world situation. Use this lesson on its own or as support for the lesson The Case of the Missing Rectangle Side.

Teach your students to find the perimeter of polygons using real world examples. They will make polygon pictures using tangrams and practice finding the perimeters of the polygons in their masterpieces.

Refresh students on the relationship between decimals and fractions when they multiply to find the area! They will find the area of a location in a picture by converting mixed numbers to a decimals and then using the area equation.

Students will begin to calculate volume of different rectangular prisms using base ten cubes and then transition to using the formula V = L x W x H. Students will then practice using the legendary fifth grade activity, Cootie Catchers.

Get your students comfortable discussing their math thinking in converting centimeters to meters. This lesson may be used on its own or as support to the lesson Converting Metric Measurements to Decimals & Fractions.

Challenge students to convert measurements between their metric counterparts! Students will relate the measurements to real-world objects. Use this lesson as support for the Converting Metric Measurements in Word Problems lesson.

Help students color-code their way to multiplying fractions! Students will learn how to multiply fractions using area models. Use this lesson on its own or use it as support to the lesson Area Models and Multiplying Fractions.

Word problems can be overwhelming to students, but if they have a tool to help them, they can handle it! Use this as a stand alone lesson or alongside Stepping Through Addition and Subtraction Word Problems.

Help your students visually represent equivalent fractions! Use this lesson on its own or or as support to the Show Me Equivalent Fractions! lesson.
