Ending Strong: Narrative Writing

Practice concluding narrative writing with this fourth- and fifth-grade worksheet! Students will read an incomplete story about Olivia’s solar-powered lighthouse project for her school’s science fair. As they go, learners are asked to underline words or phrases that give them clues about the ending. Then, students will write a conclusion to finish the story.

This writing exercise will help upper elementary students learn to write strong conclusions. Conclusions should wrap up the story in a meaningful way and show what the main character felt, learned, or realized. A thorough conclusion makes for more effective writing, whether it’s for a fictional story or an argumentative essay.
