Garden Mystery: Match Young Plants to Adults

Become a genetic detective with this inquisitive life-science worksheet! Junior botanists at the first- and second-grade level practice identifying young plants by looking for similarities with their parents. First, students will cut out the names of each plant. Then, students will observe characteristics to match a young plant to its adult counterpart, and paste the correct name under a young plant. Finally, they’ll use a short-answer section to explain the evidence they observed along the way!

By completing this worksheet, students further their understanding on how plants derive parts of their appearance from their parents. In order to feel confident while completing this activity, students need to have familiarity with the kinds of similarities and differences seen between young offspring and adult parents.
