Worksheet
Long and Short A Sort
Practice identifying long and short vowel sounds in this colorful worksheet! Young readers will look at 10 pictures and determine whether they use the long a or the short a sound. If the word has a long a, like in train, learners will circle the image. If the word has a short a, like in cat, students will put an X over the picture.
This worksheet will help first and second graders build phonological awareness, which is vital for reading and writing. The ability to identify long and short vowels strengthens students’ ability to encode and decode words and can provide support as they learn about vowel teams.
